BATTERIES
NICKLE CADMIMUM
BATTERIES:
Nickel Cadmium batteries are used in Refineries for its
reliability and long life and less maintenance.
Lead acid batteries are also used but life is limited and
maintenance costs are high and handling H2So4 is too dangerous for its chemical
concentration.
For nickel cadmium batteries potassium hydroxide are used
for electrolytes.
Hydrometer is used for measuring the specific gravity of
the electrolytes in the batteries and the value should not be less than 1.200
for good sp. Gravity.
While doing Maintenance the batteries should be cleaned,
terminal connection should be applied with petroleum jelly for anti corrosion
of the terminals distilled water should be topped if the level goes to minimum
mark.
Battery will be charged through
Battery Charger through SCR rectifier circuit. By charging, the batteries will
be maintained periodically.
Boost charging = C / 5 for hours.
C – Ampere hour of design data of battery
If ‘C’ = 100AH
Then charging should be 100 / 5 = 20 A
20 A should be flown
for 7 hours for charging the battery to get desired output voltage
Trickle charging = less than 1 A
