SAFETY GUIDE TO ELECTRICAL FOREMAN

 PERMITS: It is statutory provision to obtain the work permits in every chemical, oil and power industries for the safety of personnel, equipments to carry out any maintenance, repair jobs,

COLD PERMIT: To carry out any maintenance, repair work in the plant area work permit has to be obtained from Operation Department by Authorized or competent person. The work permit shall be closed with the Operation department as and when the job is completed.

HOT PERMIT: In the plant area, to carry out any hot work suck as welding, grinding, gas cutting, heating, using megger and other intrinsically safe equipments permission will be issued by Operation department after checking the gas level with gas tester. Before commencing the work, safety precautions to be taken by providing fire extinguisher, fire hose, gas monitor etc.

ENTRY PERMIT: For entering in hazardous location such as product tanks, vessels, heaters, pipe lines tec., a personnel entry permit shall be obtained. For vehicles, cranes etc., entering in the plant area, vehicle entry permit shall obtained from Operation Department.

ISOLATION AND LOCKING : To carry out any work on any electrical and mechanical equipments, such as motor, power cable, transformer, distribution boards, pumps, compressors, blowers, it should be electrically isolated and locked till the works are over.

SAFETY TAG: Whenever any work carried out, all safety precautions should be taken, safety caution boards shall be provided at the isolation end and also at the place where work is to be done.

LEADERSHIP QUALITIES: He must be well versed in knowledge and a decision maker. He must know the relevant safety of the equipments and personnel working under him. He must guide his subordinates in proper manners in their work. He should be sincere, cost and time conscious with regard to the work entrusted to him. Personally he should have a helping tendency to others. He should understand others and respect the feelings of others.

GUIDING OF ELECTRICIANS: A foreman will have to guide his electricians not only regard to work but should guide them in personnel carrier also. He should teach them also safety aspects of work. He should guide them how to move with their colleges and give respect to their Superiors. The electricians have to be guided properly when ever tend to commit mistake.
